the newest member of our family, charlie:

she is a pixie bob that we inherited from arjen’s family home, where his mom runs a pixie bob cattery. she didn’t get along too well with other cats there and apparently needs to be in the center of attention all the time so we figured our house was the perfect place for her haha. it’s my first real pet ever (besides hamsters and desert rats that i had as a kid), so i’m happy! just look at how cute she is…

rough paintings/sketches by Saskia Gutekunst. i first saw her work when it was featured in queen of arts together with my own, i was very impressed. i love the rough quality of her work and her blog features tons of sketches + monochrome speedpaints which are definitely worth checking out.

found my text files containing the code for a few of my old tumblr layouts, and decided to post screenshots here since they represent so many hours of work, haha. i definitely change my layouts too much, but what can i say, i’m a perfectionist… guess i can compensate for all the lost layouts with this tiny little archive.

can you believe my mom wanted to throw these gems away?! these are bricks upon which my childhood was built, haha. i still almost cry when i watch land before time. and i still remember all the lyrics to the opening song of milo and otis… “we’re gonna talk a walk outside today, gonna see what we can find today!”

oh and does anyone remember this one? makes me feel like a 6 year old again…

new computer

does it make me shallow and materialistic for being this happy about a material possession? my new comp has been up and running for a week now and it’s a LIFE CHANGER. i called it rufus because it’s a lean, mean animation machine (don’t ask me what those two have to do with eachother, choosing names for my computers is a very intuitive process for me haha). rufus is FAST! render time means NOTHING to rufus! which means that me and rufus… well… we’re made for eachother.

no but seriously, thus far this has been the best investment i’ve made. with help from my boyfriend, who actually knows stuff about computers, we put together a list of the parts which i bought separately and he pieced together to become rufus :D some exciting aspects include:

an i7 processor
windows 7… at last… goodbye shitty vista!
1500 gigs of disk space
a fucking amazing dell ultrasharp screen which is just mind-blowing!! this is the first time i’ve had a screen larger than laptop format :0

for now it’s housed in my miniscule work room at home which is kind of a disaster because it’s all squished into a tiny space, as above picture shows. i also forgot to invest in a decent wireless card (it’s on the to-do list) so i still have to use my laptop for browsing which is why it’s squeezed onto my tiny desk as well, ahaha. also my entire house is still littered with boxes from all the separate computer parts…

here’s to hoping this computer will facilitate the creation of many a digital painting and animation :D

whoa i almost missed it! it’s 2AM here but of course still tuesday in the americas, lucky me. i recommended the wonderful mattahan whose work i love and have been following for a bit over a year now. his work is varied and wonderful and most of all, despite his excellent digital painting skills, he is constantly improving and refining his painting technique. check out his tumblr for a mix of rough doodles and insights into his more detailed, finished pieces. also, if you have a deviantart account, head over to his deviantart page and watch + fav!

also: layout change. it’s not totally done yet but it’s mostly finished. the other one stretched out my drawings to unpleasant extremes sometimes, not to mention that i find making layouts oddly therapeutic :] here’s to hoping someone else isn’t going to insta-ripoff the whole thing (ahem). and hey - awesome news! i received a payment for some work i did and was able to purchase a new super computer from it, which i chose to order in separate parts… and they’ve all arrived! tomorrow morning is building-computer-time, thanks to my technology-savvy boyfriend. the birth of my lean mean animation machine 8D

this is one of those songs that doesn’t get old to me for some reason. love it! although as an animator i always find music videos that only show a performance boring. there’s so much more that you can get out of a music video!!

woohoo, finally a tumblr tuesday where i remembered to actually recommend someone. i recommended charliebowater of course :]

anyway, i joined the behance network the other day. the quality of the work on the site is great, but most of all i like the way the site is divided into ‘projects’ rather than individual images. this makes the site much more professional, making it easy for artists/studios to post work they’ve done for clients, but also gives you the opportunity to post ‘series’ of work and add details + progress pics, which is what i did with my art. still working on adding more projects, but check it out for now!

oh and… HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!!
